Accommodations

The author’s cabin F218

All cabins on Aurora can be made up as a twin or with a queen sized bed. Many cabins have upper bunks receded in the ceiling, meaning they can be made up as a twin, or in a three or four berth configuration, ideal for a family, or those who desire to share, thus cutting the cost of a cruise considerably.

All cabins have a TV, a small sofa with a coffee table. There are coffee making facilities, a refrigerator, vanity / writing desk, personal safe, ample wardrobe and drawer space, a hairdryer, bathroom with WC either with a bath or a shower. A curtain separates the bed and the small lounge area, ideal for early risers, who do not wish to disturb others. These cabins are available with a window or an inside cabin, which features a large mirror where the window would be and are bright and cheery being amply lit.

Finally, the ships designers have learned that a safe on the floor of the wardrobe was stupid. Thankfully it is now located in a cupboard (topped by the TV) above the fridge, which is a sensible place to have it. No more bending down on your knees, which is hard for older passengers who sail on Oriana.

The sofa is comfortable and a useful addition to the cabin

Two grand penthouses, Suites, Mini Suites, Deluxe Balcony cabins, offer many additional comforts. A butler is available for those residing in a Suite or Penthouse.

Other accommodations include, Balcony cabins, as well as Twin inside or inside cabins. A good number of twin cabins have upper bunks recessed in the ceiling and can be made up as three or four berth cabins.

The most popular cabins are the twin inside or outside cabins, which have the following facilities. All lower beds are convertible to a king-size bed. Each cabin has a bathroom with a bath, or a shower cubicle, WC, ample mirrors and cabinets. Each cabin has four wardrobes and up to eleven drawers. There is a two seater sofa, a chair coffee table, vanity table/writing desk, TV with a built in radio. There is a small safe, a hairdryer and refrigerator. Tea/coffee making facilities are available in all cabins. Direct dial telephone. Cabins have a large picture window or a large mirror for the inside cabins. All accommodations is air-conditioned. Aurora has many more balcony cabins, staterooms and suites than Oriana, and these are becoming more and more popular. No matter the accommodation booked, there is not a bad cabin on the ship.

Sadly on our voyage we were advised that one of the satellites was down, which badly effected our in cabin TV entertainment, which was sadly lacking. Each of the movie channels aimlessly showed the same movie again and again allocated to that channel. CNN, BBC and other channels usually received were never seen. There was no attempt to provide any additional entertainment other than that had been pre planned. The other inconvenience was that due to the satellite problem, international telephone calls were also not available. Although stopping I major cities no technicians came aboard to fix the problem.
