Promenade Deck
Curzon Theatre
The Curzon Theatre is a
superb venue. However, on the down side, it does get very warm, especially when
dressed in formal wear. The theatre offers Theatre company
spectaculars, various cabaret acts and the occasional play. Re the stage
spectaculars, these are repeated almost every year as well during the around
the world cruise, where one show can be seen three or more times. All except
one show between San Francisco
we saw on Oriana last year. This year’s play “Stepping Out,
starring Anita Harris and Sue Hodge from Allo Allo fame,” was to put it
simply, abysmal, whereas last years bedroom romp also starring Sue Hodge was
excellent.

Anderson’s
This
is the most elegant lounge on the ship. The room has the feel of a country
house of yesteryear. The photographs say it all!

Charlie’s
This venue is on the port side
of the Atrium and directly aft of Anderson’s.
A restful spot during the day, but, it comes to life in the evenings, as the pianist
plays favourites and Charlie’s has now become the ships Champagne and Caviar Lounge.

Looking
aft
Masquerades
A colourful
lounge, but it is underused whilst on the world cruise. During the day right up
to around 10pm the room
stands empty. Late at night it becomes the disco.

The Art
Gallery

The circular stairs lead from the Casino and
Champions to Café Bordeaux
Casino

Champions
Champions is the ships sports
lounge and pub. It has a colourful modern décor, with a bandstand and TV
monitors above the bar and scattered around the room showing sports events. I
have to say that this room is unsuitable for non smokers, although smoking is
only permitted on the portside, most drinkers here smoke and it infiltrates the
entire room. Another problem for no smoking passengers, is whilst walking to
the aft stairwell and lifts, or to Carmen’s Showroom, you must walk from
port to starboard through the heart of this room. Bad planning P&O!

Carmen’s Ball & Showroom
The entrance of this magnificent
room is graced by a bronze statue of the dancers. With its red and gold trim
entrance, you enter a colourful and well designed room, with bench and chair
seating that has an excellent view of the stage and dance floor from all
directions. The bar is located aft between the two entrances. During the day
this room is used for dance classes, both line dance and ballroom dances. Bingo
is held here each afternoon whist at sea.

Promenade Deck
Aurora
like her sister Oriana has a full wrap around promenade Deck, a feature missing
on most new “mega” ships. Carnival Cruises has sent two of its
older ships to P&O Cruises Australia, although these ships have ample
topside open decks, neither have a Promenade Deck, only one by name, but the do
not offer any out door deck space along the side of the ship. Aurora’s Promenade is used for
relaxing, reading a book, sunning, and the ever popular early morning walking
around the ship.
