This extraordinary performance level has become the definition of Celebrity Cruises, and Celebrity has set the standard for today's expression of what has made cruising so popular. All their ships are of an exceptional high quality, superior design and offer spacious accommodations and they are certainly grand in style, and they offer attentive service combined with exceptional cuisine.

The excellence of Celebrity's cruise product continues with the arrival of Celebrity Century to our shores and she is a-class of ships that embodies an even greater technical achievement and meaningful innovation, while retaining the distinctive Celebrity style, sophistication and service elements that have become the hallmark of a Celebrity Cruise.

Now that is “Celebrity Cruises” a name the author knows so well, and believe me this name goes back with me personally a to the 1970’s.being the days of Chandris Lines and when the migrant trade concluded and they commenced their cruise Line Chandris Cruises, but then they decided to go into the Luxury cruise market. The author operated “Celebrity Club Cruises” in Australia with a chartered ship, with the name “Celebrity” eventually going to Mr. Chandris Snr, but after he eventually passed away, his two son had little understanding of passenger shipping and sadly sold the Chandris owned cruise company to Royal Caribbean International Cruises who now own this luxury cruise company, but it continues to operate quite independently. But I always feel that I have a part off the Celebrity name in some way, as it is a story well known in the maritime history books!

Many have asked me “Why is there an X on the funnel and what does it mean?”

MV Celebrity Century still features that famous white X- on a blue background, that was featured on the Chandris liners during the great days of passenger shipping

Such as the famed Chandris liners … SS Britanis. The X is the Greek letter for “CH”, thus Chandris, and that is why Christmas is also written as “Xmas”

Memories of Chandris’ SS Britanis for all those ship lovers!

Chandris Lines 24,000-ton SS Britanis was originally built as the luxury American Matson liner SS Monterey which sailed on her maiden voyage in 1932.

Having been sold to Chandris in 1970 she sailed between England to New Zealand and Australia until 1974, but having lost the migrant contract with most travelling by air

Britanis was refitted to become a very popular cruise ship sailing around the world and she continued to cruise, but still in pristine condition, she was finally broken up in 2000.

Great service and what can only be called a “class act” kept this ship going for 68 years!

Celebrity Cruises continues what I believe is truly a “Class Act” to a far greater degree!
