The 2,650-guest luxury cruise ship is scheduled for delivery by Fincantieri’s Marghera, Italy, shipyards on February 15, 2016. Then following her repositioning to Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy where she will be officially be Christened and Named, the ms Koningsdam will sail her seven-day (Maiden Voyage) “Premiere Voyage” roundtrip from Civitavecchia on February 20, visiting Dubrovnik, Croatia; Kérkira (Corfu) and Katakolon (Olympia), Greece; and Naples, returning to Civitavecchia (Rome) Italy. A Brochure is being released with all her details!

The Special Name for a Cruise Ship:

The Koningsdam is the first of the new “Pinnacle” Class of ships and the ships name honours “Willem-Alexander” who has become the first King of the Netherlands in over a century, for his Mother who was “Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands” abdicated on April 30, 2013 being the day that is known as , “Koninginnedag” or “Queen’s Day,” in favour of her eldest son Crown Prince Willem-Alexander. She is now known as Princess Beatrix as is the custom in the Netherlands.

Koningsdam Interiors & Facilities:

The ships interiors have been created by the famed designer Adam D. Tihany and brilliant Bjřrn Storbraaten. And being at the helm of the interior conceptualization Tihany was regarded as one of the world’s pre-eminent cruise ship interior designers. Thus he approached the Koningsdam with an eye toward creating public spaces that reflected the long tradition and the signature elegance that HAL is so well known for, whilst also elevating her design to strike a more modern balance of three elements, past, present and to reflect the future of HAL!

Tihany and Storbraaten focused on fluid curves and graceful lines as well as light-filled spaces and the natural flow of public areas. Tihany’s metaphorical approach to the interiors of the Koningsdam was inspired by, as he calls it, the “Architecture of Music.”

“The design isn’t a literal translation of music, but a conceptual approach, where we seek to evoke the feeling and beauty of an instrument with graceful lines, dramatic textures, lighting effects and use of materials,” said Tihany. “My inspirations were not only instruments, but also majestic spaces and exaggerating the feeling of height, so guests feel the grandeur of every room.”

Her interior certainly are spectacular, from being different, to the more traditional as you will see on this page!

Certain Hallmark HAL Venues re-imagined with a fresh approach:

The iconic “Queen’s Lounge” has been completely re-imagined as an elegant Theatre and Entertainment Venue that spans over two floors high.

Tihany once again drew inspiration for the space from music, nodding to the sensual curves of a violin and featuring extensive use of wood, fluid waveforms and light. With state-of-the-art technology, the “Queen’s Lounge” will showcase world-class musicians and have the largest dance floor on the ship!

It is a traditional venue, but the lighting is quite futuristic

The Grand Dutch Café will prove a popular place for smacks and refreshments on level 3 of the Atrium

The Café is located on Deck 3 at the top of the Atrium, the new venue is a nod to Holland America Line’s rich heritage and the ideal place to grab Dutch-themed snacks or beverages, with Heineken beer on tap.

The spacious Lido Market with its many themed stations

There are different themed stations with walk-up service each showcasing specific types of food. Such as freshly made innovative sandwiches, super fresh salads, international fare, comfort-style dishes, Vegetarian dishes, desserts and so much more. The Lido Market will have a market-like atmosphere with display shelves with daily specials highlighted on menu boards. There will be servers in distinct uniforms and market-style signage.

The beautifully designed and dark timbered Restaurant with an ocean view, provides the perfect setting for an Italian meal!

The small-plate menu was conceived out of the desire to slow down the meal and create a more authentic Italian experience. Dining at Canaletto carries a minimal fee.

The Pinnacle Grill:

This Prestige Dining Venue is one of the ships alternative Restaurants and it is open for Lunch and Diner, however it is vital that an appointment is made well in advance! The Pinnacle Grill is without a doubt one of the most In Demand Restaurants on the seven seas and from personal experience, I noticed very early during my early cruises that most of the evening meals are usually booked out within the first 24 hours or at least  two days of departure. You may ask, “But why?

The ultra luxurious Pinnacle Grill for the finest cuisine at sea!

Well this is very easy to answer; for once you have discovered the sublime cuisine on offer at the Pinnacle Grill with its amazing presentation that just takes your breath away, and all this being combined with the finest service that you can possibly imagine, you would want to come back again and again as well, for I can tell you that I certainly do, even though there is a very small cost of just $29.00 and yet you receive a feast to behold!

Just imagine, at the Pinnacle Grill you dine in the grandest of style for your delicious meal will come served on the ultimate of dishes and I mean nothing less than, “BVLGARI” China and you will drink your wine or drink of choice from fine “Riedel” stemware or glasses, and the table is  laid with the finest “FretteLinens. Thus at the Pinnacle Grill you will be assured that receive nothing but the worlds best, that is why it is the “Pinnacle of Dining!”

Nothing but the finest China at the Pinnacle Grill – “BVLGARI” thus go and spoil yourself!

Sel de Mer French Sea Food Brasserie:

A brand new venue to arrive to the HAL dining scene has arrived to the ms Koningsdam which will be an intimate and elegant French Seafood Brassiere named; “Sel de Mer,” which is located directly next to the popular deluxe “Pinnacle Grill”!

“Sel de Mer” will serve a classic selection of fine French seafood dishes but with a contemporary twist, be it fresh oysters, seafood chowder and fruits de mer to salt-crusted whole fish, sea scallops and bouillabaisse.

The elegant, maritime inspired Sel de Mer Seafood Restaurant – The name translates as “salt of the sea” in French

“Sel de Mer” will re-create a setting that is reminiscent of some of the finest French Brassieres where waiters are traditionally dressed and guests may choose their evening meal from a selection of fresh fish and shell fish displayed on ice in the center of the venue. The Koningsdam’s own chefs will go ashore whenever is possible and bring back the finest high quality catch of the day for that evening’s menu special. Indulge in the finest and the freshest Seafood at “Sel de Mer” and all that for just a modest additional charge.

Tamarind:

Tamarind carries on the success found aboard ms Eurodam and ms Nieuw Amsterdam with an enhanced experience on Koningsdam. Featuring the culinary traditions of Southeast Asia, China and Japan, Tamarind will be located on the uppermost deck, providing guests with stunning panoramic views.

The Tamarind Lounge and Bar area

New to Koningsdam will be an intimate sushi bar inside Tamarind with select seating for seven guests for lunch and dinner. Tamarind Brings the Flavours of Asia Onboard and Dining at Tamarind is available for a nominal fee.

The Culinary Adventure Continues:

Guests will find additional venues on Koningsdam, including the outdoor Dive-In at the Terrace Grill by the ship’s Lido pool that features signature burgers, hot dogs and fries. Then just next to the Dive-In is the “Gelato” Bar for you Ice Cream choices! The Koningsdam has all the choices and you will never go hungry for there is also 24-hour room service with a changing menu to order from whenever you desire!

Accommodations:

As the images are only artist impressions, I can assure you that the actual stateroom and suites on board the ms Koningsdam will be far superior that what is shown in what is shown here, for I have cruised in a Neptune suite and I feel that the image of the Neptune suite does it no justice at all! Not shown is the amazing and super large Pinnacle Suite, which is a good 1,290 sq. ft, thus there is space to spare! The Neptune Suite is 855 sq. ft and it has a spacious bedroom, large lounge, a dressing room and a massive bathroom, with a separate shower and a full-length bath that is also a spa bath! There are two washbasins and every possible luxury you can imagine!
