On this page we are going to explore the
elegance of Holland America Line’s second of the “Signature
Class” ships, the ms Nieuw Amsterdam IV. And I am sure that you, like the
author has been astounded by her beauty and sheer elegance! The first
“Signature Class” ship was the ms Eurodam, which was officially
named on July 5, 2008 by

ms Eurodam is the Nieuw Amsterdam’s identical sister, but their
interiors are individual and different!
This new and fifteenth ship for the Holland America Line fleet is the superb ms Nieuw Amsterdam IV, was built by the famous Italian Fincantieri-Cantieri Navali Italiana S,p,A at the Marghera, Venice Italy. And as stated above she is the fourth ship to be honoured with this famous name, and in addition she is the 81st.ship to enter Holland America Line’s service from when this great Dutch Shipping Company commenced back in 1872. Nieuw Amsterdam has dynamic positioning abilities as she is powered by six diesel generators and propelled by Azipod propulsion technology.
Although she is 86,700-ton, amazingly she will only accommodate 2,106-guests in the ultimate of five star luxuries! Thus, although this magnificent new ship is large enough to offer a vast range of diverse amenities she will carry far fewer guests than all other ships of her size, because Holland America Line believes in the following principle when they designed their latest ship … “This is a refined ship and it is adorned with fine art and antiques, however, personal space is still the greatest luxury of all.”

When the Nieuw Amsterdam was completed she
sailed on her first set of sea trials on May 16, 2010, and she commenced her maiden
voyage on July 4 for a 12-day Mediterranean cruise. Her official naming took
place on July 4, and the ship was greatly honoured for Her Royal Highness

Holland America Line has its very own “Culinary Council,” which comprises, not of just one Head Chef, as you would find on every other cruise line, but Holland America Line has its own hard working team of six Master Chefs on its “Culinary Council,” who not only create superb recipes that are featured in all the dining ventures onboard all of HAL’s 15 ships, but also ensure the exacting standards that HAL have set for a hundred years and that has made this company’s cuisine so famous for its excellence and thus it has won countless awards over the years!
Master Chef Rudi Sodamin was once again named
Best Cruise Line Chef by Porthole Cruise Magazine. One of the world’s
leading cruise travel publications, Porthole. “Chef Sodamin’s
talent is legendary,” said Editor-in-Chief Bill Panoff. “Year
after year Chef Sodamin continues to be the most innovative and inspiring chef
in the cruise industry. Always looking to elevate the culinary experience for
cruise guests, Rudi’s leadership and mentorship of chefs has expanded the
many possibilities for gourmet cuisine at sea.” Chef Rudi has won
this award and others years and years in a row, and obviously, there is a very
good reason for this,

I would like to sum up my thoughts on the ms Nieuw Amsterdam IV. This incredible new ship has set the kind of standard in cruise ships that is so high that all ships in the future should attempt to match her! However, I am aware that this will be a big ask, for Holland America Line has a knack and a speciality and flair that is renowned worldwide and thus it the Cruise Company that has won more awards than any other cruise company, and has done so many years in a row!
Below are just a few of the Awards and
Accolades handed to Holland America Line – and they deserve it!:
