MV Orion

Australian and overseas visitors have been enjoying the luxuriously appointed MV Orion which is permanently based in and around Australia. Her cruise itineraries are extensive and imaginative. MV Orion explores an array of exotic Islands, un-spoilt destinations in and around Australia, cruising Australia’s Top End, including Cape York, Arnhem Land. Other popular destinations are the Kimberley’s, the Great Barrier Reef, and Tasmania. Cruises outside Australia include East Timor, Papua New Guiney, and Antarctica.

Orion was built in Germany and was completed in November 2003. This ship is a remarkable boutique cruise ship, especially designed for the cruise connoisseur. This delightful ship combines comfort and casual elegance, as well as the latest in ship design and has advanced maritime and environmental technology.

Please Note: The Orion has been refitted and the images below do not as yet reflect the many new improvements that have been made. Therefore in due course these pages will be upgraded! Reuben Goossens.

 Leda Lounge

MV Orion has 53 suites and cabins, all featuring twin beds that can be converted to a queen-size bed, other facilities include, TV, DVD/CD player, refrigerator and ample closet space. One of the nice touches is the marble-clad bathrooms.

Typical Stateroom

Other facilities include: Spa, sauna, whirlpool, masseuse, hairdresser, and a boutique. The Constellation Restaurant: offers single unassigned seating, as well as the Delphinus Outdoor Café for casual alfresco dining. Surrounding the Observation lounge is a wrap-around deck, for that after dinner stroll. Exploration and recreation equipment includes: Two jet-propelled tenders, ten heavy-duty motorized Zodiac inflatable boats, kayaks and windsurfers.

Orion is the first of its kind to enter the Australian cruise scene, one that was long overdue. Experienced cruise passengers are looking for new destinations on a luxury smaller ship, rather than cruising on big ships catering up to 3,000 passengers. During a press release, Managing Director, Sarina Bratton said;

There has been growing interest in luxury expedition cruising in other parts of the world and so we bring this concept to Australia with a combination of quality on-board surroundings, service and comfort whilst taking our guests to experience many wonderful places that, until now, have been difficult to access.”

However, if you are interested in a cruise, I am happy to refer you to a dedicated cruise agent in Australia, New Zealand or further afield on my recommended “cruise agents” page, for these are agents that specialise in cruising and they will be able offer excellent service you and the best fares available! Be assured, I do NOT receive any commissions or favours from these agents, and in the vast majority of cases these agents will not even be aware of my, or mu site’s involvement, as I provide the enquirer with the requested information of the agents (in their region) including their contact details.
